Introduction

It took me a while to decide the topic for my project. From the beginning it was clear that I wanted to write about the culture of the United States because I think it is a fascinating country and because I have lived there for a year. I finally decided to write about Martin Luther King’s speech “I have a dream”. Martin Luther King, Jr. is a worldwide known character that had a major influence on the American culture.

The cultural aspect of this project is the racial conflict within the United States, that is still strongly present today. My project will mostly focus on the civil rights movement of the African Americans and racial segregation in the USA. However I will also address the problems that Asian Americans and Hispanics encounter in modern American society.
